Brand New Twelve Week

Evening Course on

Digital Photography using Adobe Photoshop & Elements

The proposed schedule for this course is as follows:

  • Wk1. Introduction. Setting up your camera & Photoshop to ensure consistent results. This will include an overview of the Photoshop workspace.
     

  • Wk2. Storing & Looking after your images. Introduction to the Bridge, backup strategies including backup drives, Internet storage vaults and using portable storage devices such as Flashtrax in the field.
     

  • Wk3. Raw Fundamentals. Processing images captured in Raw mode. This will include how to update Camera Raw for new models. Discussion about the various file formats and their appropriate use.
     

  • Wk4. Sizing Images. Techniques for cropping, enlarging & downsizing images. Preparing images for email & web use. A discussion about file resolution and bit depth.
     

  • Wk5. Colour Correction. Explanation of the issues surrounding choosing colour spaces. Techniques for dealing with colour casts.
     

  • Wk6. Selections. Using various techniques and tools including the various lasso tools and masking techniques for accurate selections.
     

  • Wk7. Layers. Discuss the importance of layers. Look at using various types of layers, blending modes, adjustment layers, and if time permits, layer masks.
     

  • Wk8. Monochrome. Choosing images for Black & White. Techniques for creating mono images. If time permits techniques for creating spot colour images.
     

  • Wk9. Cloning. Techniques for dealing with unwanted objects in images. Repairing old photos.
     

  • Wk10. Image Problems. A session on dealing with common problems such as digital noise, keystoning, under/over exposure, red eye removal.
     

  • Wk11. Portrait Retouching. Retouching portraits done right, techniques for improving skin tone, skin blemishes, improving eyes & teeth.
     

  • Wk12. Workflow Process. Bringing it all together, looking at the order of work, discuss why certain operations need to be carried out in a certain order. Look at various sharpening techniques. Preparing images for printing.
